Our Moon

Nuestra Luna. Datos comprobados sobre la Luna: de dónde sale su luz, su tamaño, la distancia a la Tierra, su gravedad y las misiones Apolo y Artemis II.

The Moon is Earth's only natural satellite. It travels around our planet, and one trip takes about 27 days. The Moon does not make its own light: it reflects light from the Sun.

The Moon is smaller than Earth. If Earth is a basketball, the Moon is a tennis ball. It is also very far away: about 384,400 kilometreskilometers. Thirty planets the size of Earth can fit between Earth and the Moon!

There is almost no air on the Moon, so people can't breathe there. Gravity is weaker there: it is about one sixth of Earth's gravity. In full sunlight, the Moon is very hot, but in the dark it is much colder.

In July 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first people on the Moon. They walked on its dusty ground and collected rocks. Between 1969 and 1972, twelve astronauts walked on the Moon. In April 2026, four astronauts travelledtraveled around the Moon on the Artemis II mission.
